CANGURU Goes Electric

Climate change continues to be a concern for society. To guarantee a sustainable future, companies must also take measures and reduce their ecological footprint as much as possible. CANGURU has made great strides here in recent months and is trying to be at the forefront of the ecological pack with fleet management as much as possible. As you can find in our core values, our goal is to be a “front-runner” “in all areas in which we operate”. This also applies to our fleet strategy!

In recent months, the share of hybrid and electric cars compared to diesel cars in our fleet has increased from 19% to 45%.

In the meantime, almost half of our jumpers (that's what we call our employees 😊) drive an fully electric or hybrid car.

This is partly due to the partnership with Polestar, in which CANGURU has found a partner with a similar business philosophy, where sustainability, innovation and “being a front-runner” are central. This April, we took delivery of nine new electric Polestar 2 vehicles that were immediately distributed to their new drivers.

In addition, a lot of KIAs with hybrid and especially electric drive have been introduced in our fleet in the meantime. The e-Niro was mainly chosen here: a very nicely equipped EV with approximately 450km of autonomy!

In light of the current supply-chain problems caused by Covid, chip shortages among manufacturers and the war in Ukraine, it turned out to be quite a challenge to accelerate this (PH)EV transition today. By reacting quickly and with the help of the right partners, we as a company have nevertheless succeeded in making a large part of our fleet greener in a relatively short period of time, thus taking a major step forward towards an emission-free company car fleet.

Charging options

Of course, the transition from traditional fuels to electrification of the company car fleet does not stop with the replacement of the cars themselves. The most important requirement with an electric vehicle is of course the need for flexible solutions regarding charging. Always the front-runner, CANGURU immediately invested heavily in its own charging infrastructure.

Three 22kW CenEnergy Stila charging stations with a total of six charging points were installed in our company car park, so that our colleagues can always charge their new cars while in the office. This allows them to return home after work with a full battery charge. Measures have also already been taken to further expand the number of charging stations in our car park as our fleet continues to grow. The necessary charging infrastructure can also be provided at home for employees who have both the opportunity and need.

Where the publicly available charging infrastructure used to seem like a big stumbling block, this is also heading in the right direction. Public charging stations and fast chargers are springing up like mushrooms and can be used by our Jumpers on top of the charging infrastructure at the office and possibly at home. This variety of charging options means that the so-called “charging stress” (the fear that the electric car does not have enough range) for our employees, who have already taken the step to an electric vehicle, is significantly reduced.

Total Cost of Ownership (TCO)

Electric driving has several advantages. In addition to the benefits for the environment, including those linked to emissions and the option to charge the batteries with green energy, the operational costs are also a lot cheaper. This translates into the TCO or Total Cost of Ownership analysis. When you take into account not only the lease price, but also the tax benefits, less need for maintenance, energy costs, etc., an electric car is not only better for the environment, but also more cost-efficient compared to a traditional fuel car.

Driving comfort

In addition, we hear from our employees that the electric cars are very relaxing to drive. The fact that electric cars make little noise greatly improves driving comfort and also contributes to a reduction of noise pollution in cities.

In conclusion, we can say that on this basis we are continuing to build on the greenification of our company car fleet and continue to build on a sustainable future in which we continue to fulfil our ambitious role as front-runner!
