Behind the scenes - Working at Canguru

Updated: Sep 17, 2021

People talk about consulting and working at a consulting firm all the time. But how does a consultant fill their days? What do they actually do at an IT consultancy firm?

Lucky for you, we had three of our most recent hires write short entries for this blogpost. Kymo, Iliass and Domagoj gave a brief explanation of what they do, how they started working here and shared a bit of their experiences of what working at Canguru is about.

"From the start I felt like I belonged and started out my journey learning the basics of SAP CPQ. Here I received a lot of flexibility on how I would achieve this."

As a freelance 3D artist I already worked on a VR project with Canguru in the past. It was an amazing experience where I got to work with a whole bunch of motivated professional people. After some time and a global pandemic it was time for a career switch to SAP. Because of this amazing experience, Canguru was first on my list and not much later that dream became true, and I got a job offer!

From the start I felt like I belonged and started out my journey learning the basics of SAP CPQ. Here I received a lot of flexibility on how I would achieve this. Canguru puts a lot of trust into their employees from the start which I like with my freelancer background. Together with a flat hierarchy you feel like contributing and having a voice in the organization very fast.

My day-to-day tasks range from attending discovery workshops to programming in IronPython for custom CPQ functions. This flexibility in tasks makes every day different, and you must often work for multiple clients at once. Personally, I like this a lot since I need a good challenge not to be bored at work. After a month I was also given the opportunity to study and obtain a CPQ implementation certificate from SAP for which I'm very grateful.

Besides work, Canguru also spends a lot of time on bringing everyone together in fun events (for now virtual). We had a virtual bubble party for New Years where all the jumpers and their families joined. After eating together there was a fun live show with a mentalist who fooled a lot of us with his tricks. I feel like Canguru cares about its employees, and it's exactly this attitude which pulls me towards them.

I'm looking forward to having more amazing moments and growing together with Canguru!

"The company, for example, offers employees the chance to take courses and trainings. Because of this I already got my first SAP certification in Warehouse Management!"

Hello everyone! My name is Iliass and I work since November 2020 at Canguru Solutions. In my first month I got the opportunity to work on an internal SAP cloud project. Alongside with that I got a lot of courses in SAP. So enough work to keep me occupied. My main focus is self-growth that allows me to explore my personal and professional ambitions. This is also one of the many reasons I chose Canguru Solutions. The company, for example, offers employees the chance to take courses and trainings. Because of this I already got my first SAP certification in Warehouse Management! This enables me to explore new roles and expand my experience.

Considering the fact that I had a whole semester of online lessons, there was only one thing that was really difficult for me. This was getting my rhythm back and waking up early in the morning. Sometimes I still have to go to the office, which is most of the time empty because of the crisis we’re in, but I still take my chance to go and meet some new colleagues. For New Years, there was a virtual dinner where we could see each other eating in front of the camera. After dinner, there was a magic act by Piet Kusters.

Despite the fact that the last couple of months were strange for all of us, I managed to finish last year in a good way. I hope 2021 will be a better year when we can look at a better corona-proof future.

"I have the option to grow in ways I would like to, from being able to do some creative work within our marketing team to more technical topics like SAP C4C..."

As an International Business Management student, I did not have a completely clear idea as to what to expect working at Canguru when I started here as an Intern for my studies in February 2020. After familiarizing with Canguru, the Jumpers (my colleagues) and the SAP technology I was sure that this is a place I wanted to work for.

While working here, I am able to explore any topic within the company I wish to. This is a great thing about working at Canguru, I have the option to grow in ways I would like to, from being able to do some creative work within our marketing team to more technical topics like SAP C4C, and everything in between. This is amazing for somebody like me that isn't completely clear on what I want to do in the long-run, so why not do a bit of everything and learn where my passions and interests lay! During my internship I started working on an SAP C4C implementation project, which was sadly halted at the time due to... well you know who! But this didn't stop Canguru or me to continue working, in place of that project I focused on the change management approach and a couple of other internal projects within the company. Alongside that, I was, and still am part of the marketing team. Since my hiring in November 2020 I have worked on a couple internal projects concerning dashboarding and future-proofing our company fleet and later started working as a part of the support team for one of our clients, which is my number one priority right now. In the support team I am responsible to help and solve issues for users in C4C and the integrated systems to ensure a smooth user experience. As mentioned before, my favourite parts of working at Canguru are the ability to grow professionally in the different ways I want, as well as the ability to cast my voice and it being heard. Right from the start as an intern, my opinions and ideas were valued and heard even though I was (still am!) young and inexperienced.
